When it comes to serving God, we have a lot of excuses, or what we thought as legitimate reasons for us not to engage ourselves in serving. In the end, we disqualify ourselves from participating in God’s work.
Through the story of the resurrected Jesus and Simon Peter at the seashore of Galilee as recorded in John 21, we see how Jesus went out of his way to restore one of his most broken disciple.
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” (John 10:11)
The good shepherd calls us by our name.
He invites us in, not to perform certain tasks, or fulfill a list of criteria.
He invites us to journey with him, to join in and participate in his plan and work.
We serve not because we are qualified based on our ability
We serve not because we are worthy based on our giftedness or behaviour
We serve because we are chosen
We serve because our good shepherd came looking for us while we were lost We serve because we hear his voice and come running after him.
