Luke 10:38-42

Great is the Lord (Psalm 96)
Words & Music by Carson Li @KEC Worship

What’s at stake when we are distracted or busy in our worship? We miss an opportunity to have a life changing encounter with the living God.

When Jesus was at the home of Martha and Mary we are told that Martha was distracted, literally pulled away, in her attention away from Jesus. She was so occupied with other things that she forgot the most important thing – Jesus was there. She was missing out on an encounter with God. During this time when we are worshipping and watching services at home online, we too may become to busy or distracted that we too may miss an encounter with Jesus.

What are some things we can do?

Prepare our space for worship. In the Old Testament great effort was given to preparing the temple or other spaces for worship. Our churches are also given great attention to help foster worship. One of the best things we can do is simply turn off our phones and close any tabs that may distract us. Phones and computers are a great gift but can also distract us when we are trying to enter into a time of worship and an encounter with God.

Worship doesn’t just happen on Sundays so we can do things during the week that help us to enter into encounters with God. One practice is doing things that cause us to wonder in the beauty, goodness, and presence of God. What are some things that you can do that help you to wonder and worship Him?

For centuries the church has worshipped as a community. Others help us to know and encounter God is deeper ways. Do you have a faith community around you? If not let me encourage you to reach out and find a group of people who can journey towards Jesus with you.

Jesus is already seeking you. When we pay attention we will see and enter into an encounter with Him that will change your life.
