MESSAGE SUMMARY

We wonder if the pandemic is the cause of our passive engagement towards worship. Yet when we look back at in person worship, there seems to be certain similarities in our mindset towards worship that could be seen. While we might attribute the passive engagement towards worship to the pandemic, the truth is that we are challenged to participate actively during worship even when in person.

But we ponder, what can we do? We might think that we have always worshipped this way and what is still missing from it? As we reflect upon our current mindset towards worship, there are several examples that we can look at in the Bible. One of them is King David.

King David worshipped God with his entire being. As King David brought the Ark back to Jerusalem, his actions pointed towards one thing: Worshipping God with all his might.

King David understood the reasons for his worship towards God:

King David understood that the Ark was the presence of God.

He recognized that the Ark was the presence of God, because he saw how the Ark blessed the people it was around, and smote the one who touched it without respect. ( 2 Samuel 6:12)

King David understood that to worship God was a serious matter.

He praised God with all his might, and sacrificed an ox and a fattened animal every six steps. He praised God with all his might, and it was done with shouting and the sound of the horn. King David was not lackadaisical in his worship, and knew that even though worshipping God was a happy matter, it was a serious matter. (2 Samuel 6:13-15)

King David understood that God is worthy.

He has many different reasons to praise God, but the most important reason is that God is worthy. God has done so much for King David and given him many blessings. King David expresses that for that reason alone it is more than enough for him to praise God with all his might. What other reason does he need? (2 Samuel 6:21-22)

He also expresses this sentiment well in Psalm 145, where he speaks of God’s greatness. The reasons that King David has are also reasons for us to praise God and worship Him with all our might as well.

Now that we know that to be active in our engagement in our worship is to be worshipping with all our might we ask ourselves what can we do? We can practice.

We can move ourselves into feeling instead of waiting for the feelings before moving.

When we express ourselves it helps us to acclimatize to the new way.

Expression helps impression.

When we express we can from impressions upon ourselves that would help us in recalling the feeling. That would help us in acting ourselves into the right feeling easily.

Expression helps retention.

Our bodies are just like one big muscle. The more we do a certain thing, the more we are able to do it well. When we put into practice full-bodied worship, it is easier for us to retain that feeling and get into that mood easily.

Instead of waiting for something to engage us, let us be active in our engagement towards worship, no matter it is online or in person, we can move ourselves into full-bodied worship with all our might.
