Introduction

  • In the New Testament, God has warned us repeatedly that false christs, false prophets and false teachers will appear at the end times. 
  • How can we discern and unmask their deceptions?

Agents of Darkness

  • Beware of the false christs  
    • If anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There he is!’ do not believe it. (Matthew 24:23)
    • So, if they say to you, ‘Look, he is in the wilderness,’ do not go out.
    • If they say, ‘Look, he is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. (Matthew 24:26-27)
  • Beware of false prophets  
    • False prophets speak visions of their own minds, not from the Lord.   (Jeremiah 3:15-16)
    • Three marks of a false prophet (Jeremiah 23) 
      • character and behavior - not aligned with God’s holiness (23:13-14)   
      • vision and prediction - not aligned with God’s Word (23:25-29) 
      • mindset and attitudes - not aligned with God’s heart (23:21-22)
  • Beware of false teachers 
    • But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction.(2 Peter 2:1) 

We must be ready

    • Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. (Matthew 24:44)
    • Live each day as if Jesus will be back  (Matthew 24-25)
      • Be like the faithful and wise servant
      • Be like the wise virgins
