MESSAGE SUMMARY

Believing in God But Not His Church

We live in an age when people believe they can be a Christian without the church; some would even argue that “I can be a better Christian without the Church.

The church is far from perfect. However the idea of writing off the church is definitely a mistake. Most of the New Testament is not just about the teachings of Jesus. It’s also about the work of the church that Jesus initiated and ordained.

“The church does not exist for us. We are the church, and we exist for the world.” (Erwin McManus)

The Body of Christ

Paul describes the church at 1 Corinthians chapter 12 as being made up of different parts and organs and how each part serves a different function.

The Christian Atheists believes in God but not in His church because they believe they can pursue God on his own. However, Paul reminds us that we “are the body of Christ and individually members of it” (1 Cor 12:27)

We do have a belonging, a membership to the body of Christ, and on our own is not an option for members of Christ’s church.

The only one who wants us to believe that we are better off alone is our enemy.  The desire to skip the church, pull away from brothers and sisters and do your own thing on your schedule isn’t solitude, it’s isolation.

We need more Churches

We need more Christ communities in our cities.

God is not calling us to go to church; he is calling us to be his church, the hope of the world. (Craig Groeschel, The Christian Atheist)
