Because I Said So (Week 1)

Hi Youths,

The reason behind why we choose to submit to someone and obey them depends on how much we trust them. This makes sense because the most important thing in any kind of good relationship is trust. Without trust, there is no real relationship.

In Genesis 3:2-5, we saw how Adam and Eve (the first human beings) doubted God's good intentions and disobeyed God. Adam and Eve's choice broke the good and trusting relationship between humans and God. However, the good news is that throughout the entire Bible, we will see God's plan to restore the broken relationship by sending His only Son, Jesus, who died for our sins.

Usually, if we know someone is trustworthy and their “because I said so” is coming from a place of love and them looking out for our best, then we can trust and choose to obey them without always having to know all of the reasons. This week, ask yourself: Do you trust God? Do you believe God is trustworthy? Why or Why not?

In the next few weeks we will see how different people respond to God's or Jesus' "Because I said so" and why submitting to His authority is always the best choice.
