Acts 8:26-40

Persecution had stuck the churches in Jerusalem and they were scattered. Christians were driven out of town, and so did Philip. He went down to Samaria and continued to preach the word. God’s power was evident. Many people came to Christ and were baptized.

However, in the middle of the greatest revival in Samaria, Philip was told to depart and go to the desert place. God took him from the revival and placed him in the desert where no one lived.

As the story unfolds, God’s plan became clear. An important Ethiopian officer was heading back home after worship in Jerusalem. Philip caught up with him and showed him Christ from the passage that the officer was reading in his chariot, and subsequently leading him to Christ.

Obedience

The Lord had a mission for Philip and asked him to leave the greatest revival in Samaria and go to the desert place. He chose to obey to the leadings of the Holy Spirit. God was able to use Philip and lead the Ethiopian officer to Christ. In early church tradition, this Ethiopian officer became a missionary, and the Gospel through him was reaching out to the nation of Ethiopia.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes …

Be Ready

The Gospel is the power of God that changes lives and He is calling us to do something great for Him, but we must be ready for the moment.

God opens doors.
God prepares hearts.
God is at work in individual.
God brings men to us.
But do we have the Gospel in us to give?

The moment of obedience to the leadings of the Holy Spirit can be an opportunity for breakthrough when we are ready for it.
