1 Kings 21

There are often times when we wonder why God would allow evil and suffering. If God is good, why doesn’t he eradicate evil once and for all?

The story of Ahab and Naboth gives us a new paradigm towards such questions.

  • God is not always to blame for all human sufferings. More often it is our stubbornness, our fallen nature that bring hurts and pain to ourselves and others.
  • What seemingly is slowness in God’s judgement is often misunderstood as delay in God’s sentence. However, in truth God is being patient towards the sinners to give them space and opportunity for repentance.

As we reflect on this narrative in our own lives...

  • God is being patient with me also because I too am stubborn

  • God is being patient with all sinners, because that is the true heart of God — that “all should reach repentance”. (2 Peter 3:9)

  • We are called to reflect this patience to the world as witnesses of God’s love
