Jesus, the lion of Judah and the lamb who was slain, is worthy to open the scroll that was held in the right hand of the one seated on the throne. The scroll sealed with seven seals contained God’s complete plan for the world.

Revelation Chapter 6
At John’s time, Christians faced persecution. We might expect history was going to take a turn for the better when Jesus unveiled God’s plan for history. To our surprise, the rapid opening of the six seals lashed out more disasters:

  • War;
  • Disease;
  • Economic Injustice;
  • Cosmic catastrophe;

Christians who were faithful to God were not spared of all these, they encountered severe persecution in the midst of disasters.

The problems encountered by John at the time when he wrote the book of Revelation continue today. Wars, disease, economic injustice, sufferings abound, history does not take a turn for the better. God promises that he will put all things right when Jesus returns, he waits because of his mercy, he is giving opportunities to all who have not yet put their trust in Jesus to repent before it is too late.

Revelation Chapter 7

Even in the middle of chaos, God’s mercy is evident. He gave John two visions about his protection of his people. In the first vision, an angel went around to seal 144,000 persons, protecting them from the upcoming catastrophe. 144,000 is a symbolic number representing numerous and complete people of God.  In the second vision, a great multitude of people, from every nation, tribe and language, who are washed by the blood of the Lamb, will be in the presence of God and blessed by him forever. Their sufferings on earth are over.

Revelation Chapter 8:1-5

When Jesus opened the last seal of the scroll, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. God silenced the perpetual heavenly worship, because he attends to his people who cry out to him in prayer. Prayer is the way to connect with God in the midst of disasters while we wait for his return.

We respond to the chaos of this world through prayer, believing History unfolds according to God’s plan.
