Why are we doing a sermon series on the book of Revelation?
- Because it’s more relevant than ever before
The core message of this book is a question and an answer.
- The Question: “Who is your Lord and King?”
- This is relevant because it’s getting harder and harder to answer this question as a Christian
- There is outside pressure from politics powers
- There is outside pressure from worldly chaos
- There is inside pressure from cultural temptations
- The Answer: Jesus Christ is THE King of kings
- Presented in an apocalyptic literature
Define: Apocalypse: “Open”, “Breaking Through”
- Book of Revelation = Apocalypse of Jesus Christ = Opening of Jesus Christ
Book of Revelation seeks to do two things
- Set the present in light of the unseen realities of the future
- Set the present in light of the invisible realities of the present
First scene, prologue (Revelation 1:9-20)
