We all know what the Christian’s perspective is in regards to sex and marriage:
Sex within marriage is good; sex outside of marriage is bad.
What the Bible says:
Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh (Genesis 2:24).
- Hold fast = sexual union
- One flesh = marriage
- Sex is the consummation of marriage
What sciences says:
Researchers found that those who wait to have sex until marriage, compared to those who don’t:
- Report significantly higher relationship satisfaction (20%)
- Better communication patterns (12%)
- Less consideration of divorce (22%)
- Better sexual quality (15%)

But why? These reasons rarely help a person in a relationship or a couple facing temptations…
Turns out, we need to see God’s perspective of sex and marriage… We can see that from three New Testament passages that cites Genesis 2:24.
How God sees sex (Matthew 19:3-6):
Sex is the act in which God permanently bonds two flesh to become one; not simply an expression of love or an act of pleasure or a reproduction process.
How God sees marriage (Ephesians 5:31-32):
Marriage is a reflection of Christ’s union with the church; not a reflection of what culture believes it is.
How God sees you (1 Corinthians 6:13-20):
You are unified to God; you belong to Him.
The identity that we hope to receive from a sexual relationships is given to us by God: that we are wanted, we belong to someone, and we are His.
So flee from sexual immorality, and glorify God in your body (1 Corinthians 6:18, 20).
