Jesus the Living One
“I am the first and the last, and the Living One; and I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore” (1:17-18).
Jesus is the living one.
He is walking in the middle of seven lamp stands (the seven churches)
He is with us.
He knows what happens to His beloved churches.
The Church of Laodicea (Revelation 3:14-21)
“I know your works. You are neither hot nor cold.
So because you are lukewarm I will spit you out of my mouth,” (v15-16)
The church boasted about their spiritual riches.
They did not know they were poor, blind and naked.
Lukewarmness
We, Christian have heard the greatest news imaginable, have we not?
If Jesus is the Living One, is He not worthy of our passionate faith?
Jesus Christ produced mainly three effects – hatred, terror, adoration. There was no trace of people expressing mild approval.- C.S. Lewis
When a person encounters the Living ONE, the genuine response should be in C.S. Lewis terms:
You either Hate Him
OR you Fear Him OR you Adore Him
There’s no mild approval. There’s no middle ground. There’s no lukewarmness.
Lukewarmness diminished our power, our passion and our excitement of the gospel.
The Good News
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him.” (v20)
The root cause of lukewarmness is excluding Jesus from part of our lives.
But the good news is: Jesus wants to come in to our lives again.
“Let me in”, Jesus said, “Open the door to me, my beloved, and I will come in to you.”
This is an invitation not only to the church of Laodicea but also to all of us.
Jesus is knocking at your door. Will you open it to Him?
