5 Common Reasons People Give For Not Reading the Bible Regularly

  1. “I don’t have time.”
  2. “It’s boring.”
  3. “It’s hard to understand.”
  4. “I have heard the stories so many times.”
  5. “I don’t get anything out of it."

The Bible is God’s word

  • "All Scripture is breathed out by God." (2 Timothy 3:16)
  • Scripture is not only words, grammar, and meanings. It is God’s word.
  • "Our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit." (1 Thessalonians 1:4-5)
  • "My speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power." (1 Corinthians 2:4)
  • If we do not read the Bible regularly, we would have missed out the power and the Spirit that comes with His word.

Example of the power of God’s word

  • Healing of the blind man (Luke 18:35-43)
  • Healing of the leper (Luke 5:12-13)
  • Casting out the evil spirit (Mark 9:14-27)
  • Calming the storm (Mark 4:37-39)
  • Raising the dead (Mark 5:22-42) comparing Jesus with Elisha (2 Kings 4:32-35)
  • The word of God is powerful. It always accomplishes the purpose of God. (Isaiah 55:10-11)
  • God created the world and humankind through His word (Genesis 1:1-3, 26)

What will we miss if we do not feed on the world-creating, life-giving, soul-saving word of God?

  • Grace, mercy, forgiveness, reconciliation, adoption as sons and daughters.
  • Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, truth, beauty, wisdom, power, and glory.
  • All the things that belongs to God & is part of God.

How can we activate the blessings that God has intended to give us?

  • The story of the healing of the centurion’s servant (Matthew 8:5-13)
  • By having the faith of the centurion. Trust in God and His word - “Only say the word, and my servant will be healed.”
  • When God speaks, his power and authority can travel through time, and space, and culture, even across dimensions, to reach you, heal you, save you, transform you, and give you life.
  • And God has spoken.
  • He still speaks today to those of us who care to read His word.
  • Open His word, experience His power, and receive the blessings that He has intended for you today.
