Tired, busy, stressed
– Sometimes our life can be described as running on a hamster wheel – running very fast but not moving anywhere.
– The point of this series is to help us to take a step back, get our feet off the hamster wheel, take a look at our crazy schedule, and reflect upon our life.
– Jesus asked the question: “What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself?” (Luke 9:25)
GAME
– Many of us have conformed to the culture of GAME.
– ‘G’ stands for greed.
– ‘A’ stands for selfish ambition.
– ‘M’ stands for materialism.
– ‘E’ stands for extravagant entertainment.
The ultimate GAME story
– Jesus told the Parable of the Rich Fool. (Luke 12:12-21)
– Observation #1 – GAME is the great distractor of eternal life
– Observation #2 – GAME is the anti-commandment in God’s kingdom
The solution
– The antidote that Jesus offers – Your Father knows that you need them. Instead, seek his kingdom, and these things will be added to you. (Luke 12:30-31)
– The solution to time famine is not to cease work. But to make room to review our priorities.
– Why are we so busy?
– What are we seeking?
5 steps to reprioritize our life
Step 1 – List the top five things that have taken up most of your time
Step 2 – For each item on the list, ask: what are you seeking?
Step 3 – Whom are you seeking them for?
Step 4 – Take the Jesus challenge (Luke 12:20)
– Are you storing up treasure on earth for yourself?
– Are you rich toward God?
Step 5 – Reprioritize your schedule.
– Seek his kingdom.
– (A) There are things that we need to do less.
– (B) There are things that we need to do more.
– (C) There are things that we need to do with a different mindset/attitude.
A mental rehearsal
– Imagine you are at the last twelve weeks or last twelve days of your life.
– What will be your greatest regret?
– Imagine you are approaching God’s throne.
– What then may be your greatest regret?
Why not give this exercise a try?
– Will you spend one hour to reflect on your busy schedule?
– This will be time well spent because it may save you for eternally.
