Romans 8:28-37

There is an epidemic of spiritual amnesia going around, and none of us is immune. No matter how many fascinating details we learn about God’s creation, no matter how many pictures we see of His galaxies, and no matter how many sunsets we watch, we still forget. (Francis Chan, Crazy Love)

We often forget all that God has done in our lives.

Exodus – a Journey of Forgetfulness

Being Forgetful by the Red Sea (Psalm 106:6-7, Exodus 14:10-12)
Being Forgetful in the Wilderness (Psalm 106:13-14, Numbers 11:4-6)
Bring Forgetful at Mount Horeb (Psalm 106:9-22, Exodus 32: 1)

At every challenging situation, the Israelites seemed to have forgotten who is actually leading them. And they went back again and again, asking the same questions, as if they do not know God. Despite of all the miracles, they still do not fully believed that God is loving and leading them.

Every time when trials come, instead of trusting, do we keep questioning God? Being forgetful is a common, yet deadly spiritual disease.

Antidote to Spiritual Forgetfulness

While the enemy wants us to be distracted and forget, God calls us to remember. The antidote to spiritual forgetfulness – is making every effort to recall and remember God’s gracious deliverance.

In Deuteronomy 8, Moses warned them about the danger of forgetfulness. (v.11,14,19)
Moses also reminded the people to remember the Lord and His saving work. (v.2,18)

The story of the Israelites is a struggle of remembering against forgetting. Without remembering, the people only see the problems in front of them. Through remembering – we are able to see the big picture, and how our life is being shaped.

Remembering God in Action

Writing it down – in journaling
Have you ever record the specific things the Lord has done in your life?

Giving thanks – in worship
When you worship every Sunday, have you ever recall and give thanks to what God has done in your life the past week?

Talking about it – in small group
Instead of simply remembering God in your mind, have you ever share with others about how God’s gracious hand is working in your life?

Building a Rhythm – Celebrating and Remembering
Besides celebrating birthday and wedding anniversary, have you ever thought of celebrating God’s special provision and protection on an annual basis?
