The truth about worrying

– “Worry is like a rocking chair; it will give you something to do but it won’t get you anywhere.”
– “Worry never changes a single thing except the worrier.”
– Anxiety is the most common mental illness in Canada.
– Research is claiming that one in four Canadians will have at least one anxiety disorder in their lifetime.

Worrying is a sickness of the soul (Mt 6:25-30)

– Anxiety has to do with the disposition of the heart.
– It is a faith issue.
– Therefore it cannot be cured by just taking care of the body, calming the emotion, or fixing the mind.

Leave the worrying to God (Mt. 6:31-32)

– God who has created the lilies of the field in all their splendour sees you as his child.
– God is the only person in this world who knows every single little detail about you.
– Even the hairs on your head are numbered. (Mt.10:30)
– God knows things about you that even you yourself don’t know.

More than a concept but a life experience (Mt. 7:9-11)

– Shouldn’t you know what’s in the Father’s heart?
– God knows what you need.
– He knows every single little detail of your life.
– He knows things about you that you yourself don’t know.
– He had taken care of you at times when you didn’t know how to take care of yourself.
– Even now, there are things in your life that he is taking care of that you know nothing about.

The vaccine to the plague of anxiety

– Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God…, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. (1 Peter 6:6-7)
– Admit that you are not God.
– You cannot control everything that is happening in your world.
– Only God has the power, and the wisdom, and the loving kindness to do it for you.
– What you would do for your child, God has done for you, only a million times better.
