After they learned about Paul’s house arrest, the church in Philippi immediately sent Epaphroditus to Paul with their financial support. In return, Paul asked Epaphroditus to bring a letter back to Philippi. The church at Philippi had always been Paul’s financial and spiritual support. The relaxed and personal style of this letter showed the intimate relationship between Paul and the church.
At that time, the Philippians church was facing both internal and external pressure. Paul encouraged the church to find joy and peace in God, despite all the difficulties. Being under house arrest, Paul was a perfect example of his own teaching.
