After receiving leadership from Moses, Joshua became the new leader of Israel.
In this book, although people were doubting Joshua’s ability, his appointment was affirmed by God. Through Joshua, God carried on with His salvation plan. In the book of Exodus, Joshua had already defeated the enemies and became Moses’ assistance. Moses had prepared Joshua for his future role. Joshua was also among the spies who were sent to the Promise Land. He was one of the two, who gave positive report and encouraged the Israelites to conquer the land.
After Moses passed away, Joshua succeeded Moses in leading the Israelites into Canaan. Finally, God’s promise to Abraham was fulfilled.
Israelites’ success was not due to their political or military strength but the power and protection of God. It was God’s faithfulness that enabled the Israelites to receive the promise.
