Galatians

The reason Paul wrote Galatian was because of the tension between Jewish and non-Jewish Christians.  Jewish Christians generally believed that Israelites were chosen as God’s People because of their obedience to Torah.  Therefore, a group of Jewish Christian went to Galatians church and asked non-Jewish Christians to receive circumcision and obey the Law.  

Paul was sad and angry at the news and decided to write this letter to the Galatians church. 

The key points of Galatian are: 

1. “Righteousness” was not the result of human action but Jesus’s death and resurrection. (Galatians 2:16) 
2. From the very beginning, God’s purpose was to build a huge, multi-ethnicity family which people could join the family through faith. 
3. Torah was a temporary tool to keep Israelites on the right track but then Jesus came to take away the curse sof sin and brought blessing to the world (Galatians 3:28)
4. Therefore, it had little meaning to ask non-Jewish Christians to observe Torah. Besides, it also neglected the work of Jesus on the Cross. 

Today, through the Holy Spirit living in Christians, Christians could choose to obey the Holy Spirit and be transformed by God.  Through the power of Holy Spirit, Christians learned to love God and love people.
