Colossae was a city which is 100 miles away from Ephesus. Although Paul had not visited the city himself, he learned from Epaphroditus during his visit about the situation of the church. At that time, the Colossians church was full of heresies, false teachings, with a mix of Greece superstitious beliefs, Eastern mythologies and Jewish legalisms. All these became threats to Christ’s authority and the core value of faith in the church. Therefore, Paul wrote this letter to the church to criticize false teachings, and to encourage the believers to focus on Jesus again.
