In the Gospel of John, Jesus asks a question that seems almost unnecessary, because the answer seems so obvious.

For 38 years, this man had sat by the pool of Bethesda waiting for the water to stir, waiting for healing to come. Jesus walks up to him and says,

“Do you want to be healed?”

Why is Jesus asking such a redundant question?

Henry Alford’s commentary described this man with “a look of lethargy (a lack of energy and enthusiasm ) and despondency (a state of low spirit caused by loss of hope or courage)”.

Have you been caught between hope and hopelessness?

To our diminished hope, Jesus offers hope only He can give. To our doubting heart, Jesus offers faithfulness only He can provide.

Jesus said, “Get up, take your bed, and walk.”

1. Behind every question is an invitation to a relationship

2. Faith demands action.

3. Walk in the power of the resurrection.

Discipleship is a journey of surrendering.

Every question invites a relationship.
