INTRODUCTION 

  • Have you ever worked on a puzzle only to realize that one crucial piece is missing?
  • On the road to Emmaus, two disciples of Jesus thought that they had all the pieces of the Easter puzzle, but later found out that the most important piece was missing.

 

The Jesus They Thought They Knew 

  • They thought that Jesus was a powerful prophet
  • They thought that Jesus was chosen by God as the Redeemer of Israel
  • BUT after the tragic death on GOOD FRIDAY, they found out that this “redemption project ” had failed
  • While they thought that they knew the whole story, they were the ones who had missed the most crucial piece of the puzzle 

 

The Jesus They Never Knew

  • Jesus pointed out that the disciples are slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have already spoken
  • The Risen Jesus pointed out that their understandings of Jesus were incomplete
  • God would redeem Israel through a suffering Messiah, a crucified King
  • In order to help the disciples solve this Easter puzzle, Jesus explained to the disciples how all of the Old Testament scriptures pointed to Him.
  • By connecting the dots, Jesus showed that He was the one piece making all other pieces fit together.
