“You need to be perfect to be acceptable to God”

  • But I am not perfect nor good enough.
  • So I am not ready to follow Jesus.

I am not good enough

  • because of my past mistakes
  • because I haven’t measure up to God’s perfect standard

Question for the assumption

  • Does God really expect us to be “perfect” in order to be acceptable to Him?
  • Is being “perfect” the prerequisite for being accepted by God?

No One is Perfect

  • “None is righteous  … no one does good, not even one. (Romans 3:10-12)
  • God never expects us to be perfect in order to be acceptable to Him.

God’s Answer #1: Justification

  • For those of us feeling not good enough because of our past mistakes
  • Justification = the change in a person’s condition moving from a state of sin to a state of righteousness
  • God solved the problem of our sin by sending Jesus as our Saviour
  • For while we were still weak, Christ died for the ungodly. (Romans 5:6-8)
  • Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness. (Romans 4:3)
  • Through faith in Jesus Christ, this righteousness is given to all who believe.

God’s Answer #2: Sanctification

  • For those who may feel not being good enough, because we haven’t measure up to God’s perfect standard
  • Sanctification is about how God transforms a person, making them fit for a holy purpose.
  • Sanctification is God’s gracious work. (1 Thessalonians 5:23-24)
  • Sanctification is a process. (Romans 6:22)
  • Sanctification shapes us to be more like Jesus. (Colossians 3:9-10)
  • Jesus Christ is the saviour and also the sanctifier of life.
  • We don’t have to be perfect to start the Christian journey

Bottom Line
Life is not about whether you are good enough. Christ is enough for you.
