After the 7 seals, there were 7 trumpets.
And then came the 7 bowls.
Going from a quarter to a third, and finally complete destruction.
Each wrath of God got progressively worse.
But people did not repent, instead they cursed God.
Godless Society
- 17:1-6 describes the godless society that we are living in.
- The term “Babylon” represents a strong and affluent ancient city that wielded great power.
- And the term was a code word for the wealthiest and mightiest empire of John’s time, which was Rome.
- “Babylon” symbolizes the seductive appeal of both political and worldly economic systems, driven by an individual’s chase for power and pleasure.
- It is not just about the money or the power, but the system.
- The system set up to exploit people and oppress people for the privilege of few.
And “Babylon” is everywhere, it is New York, Vancouver, Singapore.
7 marks of “Babylon”
- Leaving the living God out of the equation
- Sensuality
- Injustice
- Violence
- Deception and Counterfeit
- Worship of Products
- Idolatry
“Babylon” will fall.
Judgement will come.
And we are all given a warning.
17:4 - “Come out of her, my people, lest you take part in her sins, lest you share in her plagues;”
But “Babylon” is everywhere, where can I go?
We are called to live “in” but not “of” Babylon.
Bring God back into the equation.
Remember that – The Lamb will conquer all.
