The church of Thyatira loved much… a little too much that they tolerated untruthful preaching and sinful behaviours to persist within the church.
Their empathetic compassion twisted what love is supposed to be, polluted what truth is supposed to uphold, consequentially tolerated what should never be compromised.
There is a distinction between accepting people and affirming everything they do.
Biblical love isn’t the absence of judgment.
Love seeks the good of others.
Love without holiness distorts.
Tolerance without discernment becomes sin.
As we reflect on Jesus’ words to the church,
1. Has the church allowed secular culture to redefine what faithfulness looks like?
2. Have we unknowingly accepted cultural norms that stand against biblical truth?
What cultural values have become so normal that even Christians can absorb them without recognizing they conflict with the way of Jesus?
The most dangerous compromise is when we slowly redefine Christianity until following Jesus costs us nothing.
