The story of Ruth happened around the same period of the Book of Judges. Some people think it is a simple story talking about Ruth’s loyalty, Boaz’s kindness and how God blessed them for their virtues. It looks like a simple love story praising virtues. When we look closer, we start to notice God’s hands working behind the scenes. Although there was no mention of God, readers can still find traces of God’s work through ordinary people. In Ruth 2:3, the Bible says, “She happened to come to the part of the field belonging to Boaz, who was of the clan of Elimelech.” It emphasizes the incident was not out of anyone’s plan, yet it was more than a mere coincidence. The mighty hand of God was at work. God overcame much difficulties and brought out the most outstanding leader through the line of Ruth: King David. Ruth was also listed in the family tree of Jesus according to Matthew. Through Ruth’s small act of faith, God fulfilled His own big plan. The story of Ruth is actually a part of Jesus’ story.
