Introduction

The author and when this book was written was uncertain.  It is commonly believed that this book was written around the time of Ezra Chapter 6 and 7.

In Persian language, Esther means “shining star.” In this book, God used this “star” to bring salvation to God’s people.

There are a number of books in the Bible with female as the lead character, and the Book of Esther is one of them.

It is an exemplified story of how God used the marginalized, the poor and the weak to deliver His people.  Esther was an orphan growing up in a gentile nation.  Despite of her background, she became the queen of Persia, and ultimately the hero of her own people.

Throughout the whole book, the name of God was never mentioned.  All that happened in the book of Esther were more than just coincidence.  It appeared that God’s invisible hands were working behind the scene, and carrying out His delivery plan.  Even at a place where God was neglected, He continued to be the one reigning at the back of the veil.
